Laptop disassembly stops severe thermal downclocking.
Laptop cleaning runs $79 to $149 per visit across Charlotte. Because notebook heatsinks rely on miniature 0.2mm copper exhaust channels, compacted lint traps airflow completely. We disassemble lower chassis plates, clean twin radial impellers, and renew dried thermal paste.
Why do laptop cooling fans sound like jet engines?
Unlike desktop computers that use large 120mm fans moving air over broad radiators, laptops depend on ultra-slim radial blower fans pushing air through dense copper fin arrays less than one inch tall. The gaps between those fins measure a fraction of a millimeter.
Within twelve to eighteen months of carrying a laptop in a backpack or setting it on a bed or wooden desk, lint weaves into a dense felt pad on the inner face of the copper exhaust fin. The blower fan cannot force air through the blockage. The motherboard sensors detect rising silicon temperatures and ramp the blower up to 5,000 RPM, creating a loud high-pitched whine.
Spraying canned air from outside only compresses that dust pad deeper into the fan blades, often jamming the impeller and stripping the plastic bearing. The chassis must be physically opened from the bottom to peel the lint away.
What happens during our laptop bench teardown?
We treat every laptop with surgical discipline on an earth-grounded ESD work surface at our North Tryon workshop:
Battery Disconnect
Bottom panel unscrewed with precision Torx or Phillips bits. The main lithium battery is disconnected immediately to prevent short circuits before any tool contacts the board.
Heatsink Extraction
Numbered heatsink spring-screws are loosened in reverse diagonal sequence to prevent uneven torsional stress from cracking the delicate bare silicon dies underneath.
Impeller Cleansing
Radial blower housings are unclipped. Accumulated lint blankets are lifted out, fan blades cleaned with natural horsehair, and bearings spun by hand to check for wobble.
Die Repaste & Pad Check
Old hardened compound is dissolved using 99% isopropyl solvent. Fresh Arctic MX-6 compound is applied to CPU and GPU dies. VRAM thermal pads are checked for tears.
Who is this laptop cleaning service not suitable for?
This service is built for Windows notebooks, gaming laptops (Asus ROG, Lenovo Legion, Dell Alienware, MSI, Acer Predator), and standard business laptops (ThinkPad, Latitude, EliteBook).
We do not service glued tablet chassis where glass screens must be heated and suction-lifted, nor do we perform liquid metal repasting on machines that did not ship with liquid metal barriers from the factory. If your laptop has a failing battery that has physically swollen or a cracked motherboard trace that prevents turning on, those require dedicated component replacement beyond thermal cleaning.
